Everywhere I turn at the moment I’m hearing how people are struggling with the uncertainty and the unknowns of our current situation. There’s a lot of people worried and anxious at the moment, particularly here in Victoria, about this next phase of lockdown and what it means for their kids, their careers, their incomes, their businesses, their relationships and their futures.
If this is you, you aren’t alone in your thinking or how you’re feeling.
It’s an eerie feeling going for a walk and seeing the streets empty. It’s challenging to see local businesses putting up a for lease sign in their windows. It’s heartbreaking to see schools and playgrounds lifeless. It’s confronting to not be able to see expressions on other people’s faces due to the masks. And it’s lonely not being able to connect properly with family and friends.
I don’t know about you, but for me, it’s challenging some beliefs and attitudes and leading me to explore how I may need to adapt how I’m thinking about certain things, how I may need to make shifts in what I value and get specific around what I need to start doing or stop doing to help me respond and react better.
Many of you who know me, know that my business is based around helping people understand how they can adapt their thinking and behaviours to overcome challenges they face – to improve their relationships with self and others, reset who they need to be as a leader in their business or simply to bring out a better version of themselves.
There are a number of models I’ve created to help my clients with this and I’ve used one of these models to explore and help explain how the way you may be interpreting your world and making sense of situations at the moment could be causing you to feed your anxiousness, worry and anxiety, resulting in a feeling of hopelessness or helplessness.
I’ve put together an overview of how your way of interpreting situations may be useful to you as much as it could also be unhelpful. In addition I’ve created some questions for you to explore and some actions you might want to play with to help you obtain clarity, regain some power and give you back a sense of hope.
