Our external environment tends to reflect the state of our inner mind. If your space is cluttered, messy, unstructured and untidy you will find your mind will also feel cluttered, your thoughts unstructured and resulting actions messy. Sometimes to create a calm, considered state that results in you feeling more in control you may need to declutter your external space to shift the energy.
Clutter prevents energy from flowing the way you need it to in order for you to make space for the new.
Take a moment to ask yourself:
What are you holding onto that no longer serves a purpose?
What needs to be tidied and put back into place?
What needs to be eliminated to create space and room for something new?
Think about that cupboard you’ve meaning to sort out or perhaps clothes you’ve been meaning to cull. Maybe you have boxes still to unpack from a move you made at some point. Or perhaps you’re holding on to ‘stuff’ knowing at some point you’re planning on sorting through it to see what you want to keep…however, that day never seems to arrive!
There is never an ideal time to declutter. Maybe you simply need a better strategy. Rather than looking at your entire space as a whole, declutter one room at a time.
We all make time for things that are important. If you think you don’t have time to declutter its because you aren’t prioritising this activity…perhaps you are yet to realise the value of this activity.
Try something different.
Make decluttering a priority and schedule just one hour next weekend. Pick a room. Spend one hour decluttering it and see how far you get.
Remember the aim is not for perfection…the aim is for progress!
