Up until now, you have been operating in line with a certain routine. You may find yourself unable to stick to that routine and for some that can be unsettling. A natural reaction is to fill that time and to make a new routine based around taking care of everyone else. However, this moment also presents a wonderful opportunity for you to pursue something for yourself. Maybe it’s a health goal, perhaps there’s a creative side to you waiting to be unleashed, or maybe it’s about reconnecting with self and investing time back into you ensuring your needs are met. You matter. So how can you spend part of this time of isolation prioritising you?
Take a moment to ask yourself:
How can you make the best use of your time with the time you have saved commuting?
What is a goal you have been sitting on that you can start to explore now?
In taking care of other people’s needs during this time, how can you ensure you carve out some time just for yourself?
You may choose to continue prioritising others over yourself and that is your choice. It may be a choice made out of necessity or perhaps one made of fear. You may find you’re having to do more in the same time available to you. Whilst it may be the case, you still have a choice. If someone in your family needed help in some way would you find the time to help them? The answer of course would be yes. So if you can find the time to help someone else what stops you from finding the time to help yourself? Why do you deem yourself less worthy or less important?
Perhaps start small. Start with finding 10 minutes just for you. Then maybe increase it to 15 minutes, then 20, then 30 minutes. You might even find you can increase it to 45 or 60 minutes if you really wanted. What could you do with 60 minutes? What goal could you progress? What new hobby or interest could you explore? What could you learn in that time that helps advance your career, your health or your relationship?
The choice is yours. Time is not the constraint. It is not that there is not enough time. It has and always will be the choices you make with the time you have available to you that makes all the difference.
