Words are extremely powerful. They carry weight, can be misinterpreted and mean different things to different people. When communicating with others it is one thing to speak your mind and tell the truth, however, it’s another thing to know how to speak your mind tactfully so others can remain open to hearing what you have to say.
Knowing how to adapt how you speak and tailor your message to the person the message is intended for maximises the possibility of your intention not being misinterpreted.
Take a moment to ask yourself:
- When do you hold back from telling others the truth?
- How could you be more tactful when you speak so others can truly hear what you have to say?
- What words when used prevent you from hearing the truth when feedback is provided to you?
